Attendees can engage in educational opportunities with colleagues and industry experts and discuss issues related to supplier diversity, business succession planning, access to capital, and many more topics to assist entrepreneurs and airport professionals.

Come and join this powerhouse networking event and see many others who will exhibit to increase the visibility and marketability of aviation business opportunities.  AMAC endeavors to increase diversity and eliminate barriers facing minority-owned, women-owned, disadvantaged businesses in the aviation industry through advocacy, business and professional development, and education.

Mayor Signs Bill to Improve Opportunities for Minority-Owned Businesses

On Feb. 19, 2014, Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock signed legislation that is intended to be a benchmark in economic growth for minority- and women-owned businesses. The legislation is designed to "break down barriers commonly faced" by minorities and women looking to expand their professional pursuits and ambitions in Denver.  Mayor Hancock signed Council Bills 38 and 39 and Executive Order 101 in the presence of Denver City Council members, business representatives and city executives.

"This city has regained its energy, and we are now building a global economy that is primed to compete," Hancock said. "Denver succeeds if we all succeed. After more than a year of community engagement, I am proud of this tailored package of tools we have created to sharpen Denver women- and minority-owned businesses' competitive edge. This landmark legislation will level the playing field toward work at city hall and set a standard for the private sector."

Mayor Signs Executive Order

The new laws and ordinances were a result of the 2013 Disparity Study, which uncovered evidence of constraints for M/WBE economic growth and under-utilization of minority- and women-owned business products and services, according to the City. The study laid out suggestions on annual goals to improve this imbalance.

Chris Martinez, director of the city's Disadvantaged Small Business Opportunity unit said, "Denver is embarking on a bold data-based, community driven solution to creating parity in the marketplace." He added that "these legislative actions are set to ingrain a value of opportunity within our departments, but it will take hard work every day to deliver on the high standards we have created for how we conduct business at the city."  The legislation goes into effect on April 1, 2014.

Sixty-five construction and professional service businesses attended the open house. The design-build project will be located southeast of the Peña Boulevard and Jackson Gap Street intersection.

The new fire station will provide emergency response coverage for airport structures and Pena Blvd. The current engine and tower are regularly out on calls and there are additional incidents requiring off-airfield response. DIA Hotel and Transit Center

If you have traveled to Denver International Airport recently, you have no doubt noticed the Hotel and Transit Center building beginning to take shape. Crews are now working on pouring concrete for the 10th floor of the hotel. When complete, the hotel will have a total of 14 floors. Workers are also putting the final pieces of the plaza canopy into place. The canopy will extend through the hotel building, forming the ceiling of the 6th floor lobby, out onto the plaza. The northern section of the canopy heads toward the Jeppesen Terminal and ends just as it reaches sections of the iconic roof at the south end. 2013 was a year of tremendous progress. Here's a look at some of the program numbers:
